Celebration of Student Writing

Celebration of Student Writing gifts

Worcester Public Schools students published in It’s Lit! were honored on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the Durkin Administration Building. It's Lit! is an annual celebration of student writing and all students in preschool through Grade 12 were encouraged to submit original, not previously published creative works such as poems, memoirs, and short stories. The theme for this year's publication is "Knowledge is Power," though all submissions were considered regardless of the theme.

Hundreds of students, families, teachers, and administrators gathered to celebrate 65 authors and 36 artists, who were selected from a pool of several hundred pieces. Congratulations to all students who were selected for publication and to all those who put for the effort to submit to this year’s journal. Eleven students received special awards for their writing.

Four student editors from Doherty Memorial High School assisted in the reading, selection, and compilation of the publication, as well as selecting award winners and organizing the celebratory event: Dorean Asuako, Emanuel Sekyi, Emily Stukowski, and Patrick Wallace.
